We performed this while guests were getting seated before the ceremony, which is always one of our favourite parts of the day — calm, unhurried, and full of anticipation. “Dreams” felt like a lovely fit for that quiet build-up before everyone headed off to the wedding reception at Hodsock Priory later on.
We absolutely loved playing in such a beautiful church and being part of such a special day.

So, we’ve been playing this one for years and I think it’s time for us to officially say… Bridgerton, we love you, but we did it first! 😂 In all seriousness, we think it’s great that Bridgerton has done its bit to chip away at the idea that the violin and cello are ‘just’ classical instruments. When we started playing covers of pop songs (OMG over 10 years ago now?!?), we had to fight to get people to listen to our music as something other than ‘boring classical music’.
So, thank you Bridgerton for getting string music and classical covers more into the mainstream and you know, if you’re ever looking for some new material for season 5… 😛

We always say that ‘good music, is good music’, and A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold sure fits the bill as GOOD music. When we cover a song, we don’t always know how it’s going to turn out and often things like metal and prog-rock can be quite difficult to translate onto the violin and cello. Weirdly heavy metal and strings seem to go really well together and we absolutely love covering metal bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica.
Avenged Sevenfold – A Little Piece of Heaven Violin & Cello Instrumental Version
“A Little Piece of Heaven” by Avenged Sevenfold is a prime example of how diverse and intricate music can be. This song stands out not only for its genre-blending elements but also for its sheer musical complexity. “A Little Piece of Heaven” exemplifies this with its rich orchestration and theatrical elements, making it a standout track in Avenged Sevenfold’s discography. The song’s structure is a rollercoaster of musical styles, incorporating elements of metal, rock, and even a touch of Broadway-esque flair.
When we say “good music is good music,” it really does transcend genres and personal preferences. We have lost count of the number of times an apparently conservative elderly relative has approached us at a wedding, raving that they loved the song and asking what it’s called. We usually politely tell them that it’s called “A Little Piece of Heaven” and then cross our fingers that they don’t go home and google it.
Musically ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ is genius, there is just so much detail to unpick in this song and it’s really complex with different sections, odd time signatures and curve-balls that you just don’t expect. Covering such a song on violin and cello presents unique challenges and opportunities. Metal and prog-rock, with their heavy riffs and intricate solos, might seem daunting to translate onto classical instruments. However, the emulation of heavy metal with strings can be exciting to explore as you just don’t expect “metal” sounds to come out of a violin or cello.
So, here’s the thing. This video was recorded live at a wedding reception a few weeks ago. Whenever people see that we have Avenged Sevenfold on our repertoire list, we often encounter the notion that certain songs might not be “wedding appropriate.” However, we firmly believe that any song can be wedding appropriate if it resonates with the couple. After all, a wedding is a deeply personal celebration, and the music should reflect the tastes and personalities of those getting married.
We understand that traditional wedding music often includes classical pieces, love ballads, and other genres that are generally considered “safe” and “romantic.” But who says a wedding playlist has to be conventional? Music is a powerful form of expression, and if a couple loves a particular song, it deserves a place in their special day, regardless of societal norms.
Playing a song that might be considered unconventional can be a fun surprise and a bit of an ice-breaker, making the event even more memorable. It’s about creating an atmosphere that feels authentic and meaningful to the couple, rather than adhering to outdated notions of what is “appropriate.” After all, it’s their day, and it should be a true reflection of who they are and what they love.
Okay, I’ll admit, we have a bit of extra leeway with what can be shoe-horned into a sort-of wedding appropriate setting as we don’t have the lyrics to contend with and people are conditioned to think that strings are elegant and romantic. I’m pretty sure that grandma wouldn’t appreciate our version of A Little Piece of Heaven quite so much if she knew what it was really about. Saying that, it is kind of a love story (even if it is a psychotic one). After all, Mr Brightside by The Killers and Flowers by Miley Cyrus are both hugely popular at weddings and they’re both breakup songs, so who knows anymore.
All I know is that it’s a shame to pigeonhole such awesome music because it might be a little taboo, or alternative. It’s great music, if you love it, go for it!

In this enchanting scene at Hazel Gap Barn, the rustic charm of the venue went beautifully with our violin and cello duo arrangement of Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years.” The barn, with its exposed brick walls and wooden beams, provided a warm and intimate setting for this special moment. As the bride walked down the aisle, her dress expertly floofed to perfection by the awesome Hazel Gap wedding coordinator, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. The soft lighting of the barn, combined with such a gorgeous song, made it feel like something out of a fairy tale. Everything about this Bridal entrance was just perfect.
Are you worried about making sure your walk down the aisle goes smoothly? Here are a few simple tips and tricks we’ve picked up over the years to help you nail that all-important moment…
First of all. Don’t panic. No, seriously. If you can stay calm and enjoy the moment, it will go much smoother. It sounds mad but it’s really worth having a practice walk with your bridesmaids and wedding party before the big moment. Even if it’s just on the morning of the big day in your pyjamas! With just five minutes of practice, you will realise that it’s just walking and nothing to be scared about.
If you’ve got any young or nervous children in your wedding party, make sure they are accompanied by an adult for moral support. If you’re not sure if they’ll be nervous it is better to err on the side of caution. It will also avoid any young children getting distracted on the way down the aisle.
Talking of support, consider having someone accompany YOU down the aisle. Having said it’s “just walking” nerves can hit anyone and having an arm to cling to can be a lifeline in the moment.
Slow things down! Your Bridal entrance can be over in a flash if you’re not careful, so anything that you can do to draw things out will help to make it a memorable day. Send your bridal party down one at a time (if they’re brave enough) and make sure that they leave plenty of time between each other before walking. Choosing a slow-paced song can help to calm you down in the moment.
Look up and smile! If you can look around while you walk, you’ll likely realise that everyone there is there to support you and it might just take some of the pressure off. Don’t be a Bride on a mission, enjoy it! Your photographer will also thank you as it will make their job a lot easier, the last thing you want is just pictures of you looking at your feet!
Don’t feel like you need to walk straight away, leave a decent gap after your bridal party before you start your own walk. It’s also perfectly acceptable to pause halfway down the aisle, your photographer will love this as well.
