Flowers by Miley Cyrus and trying not to sound too ‘classical’
In the past, we haven’t always been 100% about Miley Cyrus’s music but when we heard Flowers we were intrigued. The tone that Miley Cyrus achieves with her singing is just absolutely gorgeous and we were inspired to try and recreate the luscious jazzy textures and colours that she uses. One of the biggest challenges that we face as musicians performing covers of modern songs is trying to match the styles of the songs we play while still maintaining our own musical styles and retaining our musical integrity. Sarah with her Cello grooves tries to really lock onto the key aspects of the accompaniments and rhythm section while whittling it down so that it’s playable on just one Cello. The melody is another challenge and it takes listening to a song over and over again just to start feeling how a vocalist phrases the music, where they breathe, and how they treat the lyrics.
Flowers is so exciting because it feels like Miley Cyrus is increasingly going in a more Jazzy/Country direction. Whatever she’s doing we’re loving it and we can’t wait to hear more. Jaya has been listening to Flowers over and over again trying to emulate that lovely gravelly tone she achieves.

Alternative Bridal Entrance Songs?
We often get asked what Bridal entrance song we would recommend. Are there any traditions? Is there something unique that I could walk down the aisle to? These are all really tricky questions because everyone has slightly different tastes in music and EVERY SINGLE BRIDAL ENTRANCE IS DIFFERENT!
I suppose you could say that the Wagner Bridal March and the Mendelssohn Wedding March are traditional… ish. Buuuut, in reality, we rarely play these ‘traditional’ pieces. We think that unique is having music that reflects your personality and embodies what your wedding day means to you.
A prime example of what we would consider a ‘unique’ Bridal entrance is this version of Young & Beautiful by Lana Del Rey that we learned for a wedding back in October. The Bride and Groom had a special connection with this song so we learned it for them. If that isn’t unique then I don’t know what is.
So, what about the Wedding trends that we’ve seen over the years… is having A Thousand Years by Christina Perri or Perfect by Ed Sheeran unique? Well, perhaps, perhaps not… we’ve played these kinds of songs for Bridal entrances many many times and sometimes it has been a wedding trend to fill a musical gap in the Ceremony. However, some of our couples have special memories attached to songs which gives those songs extra meaning for them. Even a mainstream ‘wedding trend’ has a completely different meaning and can be unique if it’s the first song you and your partner danced to or if it’s the song you always sing along to on long road trips.
Unique is whatever you make of it. We would highly recommend having a think about what music means to you, what song makes you happy? What song makes you think about your other half? If there’s a song that sticks out for you then that’s the song for you, don’t worry too much if it’s not ‘unique’ or ‘traditional’. The main thing is that it’s a song that will fit your day.
In the end, whatever you choose will be unique to you. There’s never going to be another moment like it and you’ll always remember the little things that made it different for you.

Thanks Wednesday for the Cello love! Our Wednesday Dance Cello & Violin Cover.
We were a bit late to the Wednesday bandwagon, only getting around to binging it when we got hit by the winter flu over the new year. Being massive Addams Family fans anyway we of course absolutely loved it and were thrilled that the Cello features in it so prominently. We knew that we had to play some of the amazing music from it, so we decided to do a cover of the famous Wednesday Dance music, Goo Goo Muck by the Cramps. We didn’t want to inflict our dancing on everyone so we just went with our best emotionless, dead-eyed stares. Fortunately, the dead-eyed stare is a staple of Classical Music and pretty much how we were trained at Music College (jokes, honest… ish) so we found it pretty easy and only got the giggles a few times while we were filming this.
Kudos to Jenny Ortega for actually learning the Cello and doing some of the best Cello miming we’ve seen in a while! It’s not easy to do! We loved hearing the Apocalyptica version of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica featured at the end of episode 2 and actually did our own version of this a few years ago inspired by the Apocalyptica version. We might have to do Paint it Black at some point as well just because we love the Rolling Stones too. All in all great music throughout, we can’t wait for the next season! Hurry up!

Fall Out Boy – Sugar, We’re Goin Down Violin & Cello Cover Music Version
We were so excited to hear about the new Fall Out Boy album So Much (For) Stardust the other day that we just had to record a cover of our favourite Fall Out Boy song! Sugar, We’re Goin Down is a classic and really popular at Weddings at the moment.
Can’t believe we have to wait until March for the album but at least we can tide ourselves over with the new single Love From The Other Side.
